Installation and Performence Parlament der Steine, exhibition Fix it! – Renovate don’t speculate, nGbK, 2025
Temporary Theater // Parlament der Steine is an installation and performance developed through a participatory process, presented as part of the premiere exhibition F I X I T! Umbau statt Abriss, organised by Architects4Future in the context of the launch of the European Citizens’ Initiative HouseEurope!, featuring works by Jim Avignon, Julius von Bismarck, Marta Dyachenko, Jeppe Hein, and Folke Köbberling.
The installation is constructed from bricks recovered from demolished buildings. Arranged on the floor, the bricks form a path or flow that traces the movement of building materials from their storage on pallets into a new spatial configuration.
During the opening performance, visitors are invited to participate in this transformation. They can carry bricks from the pallets and place them along the path, while others move through, across, or around the growing structure. The process can also be reversed: bricks are taken from the path and returned to the pallets.
Through this collective action, the work makes visible the circulation of materials between demolition, storage, construction, and reuse. Temporary Theater // Parlament der Steine remains in a state of continuous assembly and disassembly, questioning ideas of permanence, ownership, and the finality of demolition.
