Marking Action – Bremen / Weser (Marked for Another Future),2026
Marked for Another Future is an initiative that investigates marking as a form of intervention in landscapes undergoing transformation. Drawing on the visual language of construction and urban planning, the project reinterprets marks that normally indicate what is to be removed, preserved, measured, relocated, or transformed. Instead of marking a predetermined future, it forms an open and speculative system of signs—temporary propositions that invite other ways of reading, inhabiting, and imagining the space.
During the Marking Action, marks will be introduced across the riverbank and its surrounding paths, surfaces, and existing structures. Visitors are invited to participate in the process, contributing observations, associations, memories, and speculative propositions to the emerging system of marks. Over the course of the weekend, the riverbank becomes a temporary alternative survey site: a place where things that are normally difficult to measure—memory, attachment, potential, absence, desire, uncertainty, can enter into the language of spatial planning.
In relation to the program Das Dazwischen verorten, the action operates within the interval between the riverbank as it exists today and the riverbank as it is planned to become. The marking action emphasise this condition of transition. They make it visible by temporarily occupying the space between an existing reality and its possible futures.
